VDB stands for Victor David Brenner. He designed the wheat penny and placed his initials on the bottom of the back. This was unpopular with the public so the initials were removed the same year of the first wheat penny, 1909.

| The half-cent coin was produced in the United States from 1793-1857. The half-cent piece was made of 100% copper. It was very slightly smaller than a modern U.S. quarter, with a diameter of 23.50 mm (0.93 inches).
